Activities of department of Chemistry- 2016-17
The Chemistry department association "Aurum"is inaugurated on
12.9.2016 in CTTE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN by Dr Cynthia Jemima Swarnavalli, Associate
Professor and Head, Women's Christian College. The inauguration was felicitated by the Managing Trustee and Correspondent of Ctte trust, Thiru L.Palamalai IAS Retd and the Principal of the College Dr. Hanifa Ghosh. The inauguration was followed by Guest
Lecture on the topic Applications of Nano Technology and a competition
chemclick.
The Department of Chemistry along with the Department of Physics And
Mathematics organized Science Fest 2016,
an Inter –School Competition on September 7
,2016 .The Event was inaugurated by Mr.P.Delhidurai,Former senior scientific
officer,Kalpakkam Local center, Chennai.The Exihibition was based on concepts
of basic sciences which saw students from various schools put 26 exhibition of
operative and non-operative models.
The Department in collaboration with Eco club conducted a
workshop on ‘Environment and human
health’ on February 20, 2017 .Dr.Geetha Swaminathan ,Former Vice Principal
,IQAC Coordinator , Stella Maris College gave a lecture on Food Adulteration
(Hazards and Detection ) followed by a demo on methods to identify aduterants
in food by simple chemical test.
In the
second session Mr.Balasundar ,Environment consultant , gave a lecture on ‘Environment
and human health’.This was followed by paper presentation competiton for the
students on various topics judged by Mr.Balasundar.
On National Consumer
Awareness day, a stall was put to teach the methods to identify adulterants in
food to the general public.
On January 11th 2017, I B.Sc Chemistry students
demonstrated chemistry experiments to students of Maduma Nagar, Corporation School
.
